BEARWOOD E-BULLETIN NEWSLETTER

VIEW ARCHIVE: Bearwood E-Bulletin

WHAT THE BEARWOOD E-BULLETIN SAYS

"I have been producing the Bearwood eBulletin to local constituents in our Ward for over 10 years . Until two years ago it was always sent out as an attachment to a fairly plain e-Mail. Paul came along and volunteered to changed all that, and he has. It now goes out with an attractive template showing examples of the content and with hot links in to the bulletin itself, and this has led to greater engagement and feedback. Paul has enormous patience with my technical deficiencies, and always comes up with the solutions to the problems I pose for him."
Councillor Bob Piper, Editor, Bearwood Bulletin

ABOUT THE BEARWOOD E-BULLETIN

The Bearwood E-Bulletin is a community newsletter for the neighbourhood of Bearwood, on the western edge of Birmingham in the UK. It is a monthly digest of news, events and articles collated and edited by local councillor, Bob Piper, often drawn from his website, the Bearwood Blog.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE WORK

While I was living in Echo Park, on the eastside of Los Angeles, I really saw a street level and more charming embodiment of the mantra "all politics are local" as motivated residents and local business owners constantly came together to improve their neighbourhood. It was a great inclusive partnership. I don't think Bearwood is that different to Echo Park, give or take a little of the sunny disposition and seemingly eternal american optimism; in Bearwood similarly amazing and numerous community groups thrive, and together with many engaged residents, local councillors and local businesses, push to improve our neighbourhood. It's tough work. A taken-for-granted-elsewhere national coffee chain opening a branch here is a notable positive. The local library is a hub and a stellar example to all libraries everywhere, - open late, full of events (and books!). Then there's the local Warley Wasps swimming club, staffed by extremely dedicated volunteers - just how many children's lives have they improved with their work? And soon to open, the restored Lightwoods House, and there's the astonishing Warley Woods park... So many good things. Bob's Bearwood E-Bulletin is an important micro-resource for authoritative local news, and with the demise of the last free local newspaper, suddenly, the role of the Bearwood E-Bulletin, delivered to people's inboxes, may be of even greater significance in the future. We use mailchimp to manage the entire email list management and responsive template process which keeps the email looking good across all screens from phones to phablets and beyond. I am proud to be able to offer a little input and to help deliver this important resource to the Bearwood community.

WHAT BHCAS SAY

"It has been really great working with Paul as he took the simple instruction 'build us a website', and then shaped our ideas into the website we now have. We are justifiably proud of our creation and when City Council officials comment on how good the site is, you know you've got it right!"
David, BHCAS.org

ABOUT BHCAS

The Belgrave Hall Conservation Area Society is an independent group dedicated to retaining the past, maintaining the present and securing the future of the historic Belgrave Hall area of Leicester. The Society was founded in October 2012 when the Leicester City Council announced plans to close Belgrave Hall as a free-to-enter public museum and turn it into an events / wedding venue.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE SITE

Working closely with members of the society and supportive members of the local council, the site was developed in 2016. We sought to create an eye-catching and informative site, which works well across multiple platforms, and allows the BHCAS to control the more frequently updated content areas within the site, their News and Events sections. I so admire the tireless and selfless work that BHCAS does,. Their dedication to preserving what is good about Belgrave Hall and surrounds is revitalising the future of this area of Leicester. I'm glad to be to contribute on some small way to their project.

Damon Hayhurst, Artist, Designer & Educator

ABOUT DAMON HAYHURST

This site is an archival resource for the work produced by London based artist and educator, Damon Hayhurst. It contains images, objects and furniture produced as personal ongoing experiments in visual art, private commissions and resources produced for educational purposes.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE SITE

I've been lucky enough to be asked to work on versions of Damon's websites for years. I love his work, his creativity. This most recent website was deigned to be minimal in the extreme. In every conversation we talked only about focusing on Damon's work and in some respects getting the website out of the way. I admire Damon for what he offers in terms of sharing his knowledge through teaching, that's immense; and his approach to materials, reuse before recycling to create new invaluable pieces.

WHAT GEMSTONE CABOCHON SAY

"Over a 12 month period I tried a veritable plethora of so called E-Commerce solutions. From templates allowing you to design your own website, and web designers who promised the earth, in exchange for costing the earth. When at the end of my tether, Web Design and Build stepped into the breach. Within a couple of days of receiving my brief, I was supplied with a platform for uploading my gem stock. Within a couple of weeks, I was live. I have a modern, functional, responsive website that makes money. I honestly couldn't be happier. Thank you WD&B."
Ricky Catwell, Gemstone Cabochon

The responsive front end is based on Zurb's Foundation framework. The shop is powered by the open source, OpenCart, which works pretty well and doesn't demand monthly or escalating fees dependent on the number of items, which is fortunate since Ricky must have over 1000 items available by now. Also Ricky is pretty technically adept and pretty determined to get his project right. He never gives up. That makes him a pleasure to work with.

WHAT GREENE SEMINARS SAY

"The thought of building a brand new website for my Physiotherapy course business filled me with dread, so I put it off for a long time. The first company I tried did a draft but it looked like it didn't reflect how passionate I was about what I did and it didn't reflect the brilliance of the people who taught for me. Paul is a website genius but his main skill is that he knows what the public want to see and in what format. He has a gift of knowing what people like and will interact with. He brought my course business to life on the web. I love the website and I'm proud that it is public face of what I do. Contact him and he will bring your business to life on the web also."
Gerard Greene, Greene Seminars

ABOUT GREENE SEMINARS

The Greene Seminars website is the place to discover more about Gerard Greene's Physiotherapy education, as taught by expert clinicians. Greene courses and seminars cover the Physiotherapy spectrum from Woman’s Health, Men’s Health, Social Media, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Paediatrics, Sports Physiotherapy, Sports Nutrition, Acupuncture and Neuro Physio.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE SITE

First of all, working with Gerard Greene from Greene Seminars is a never a dull moment type of experience! His commitment to physiotherapy and generously sharing his knowledge is immense. The Greene Seminars website includes several critical components that Gerard frequently updates, a custom designed blog, a news feed and an information calendar for the massive section of events for which Gerard books world class speakers, which is linked to Eventbrite for ticketing. It's exciting and it's cool to be a small part of Gerard's world.

HARBORNE PHYSIO & ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC

WHAT HARBORNE PHYSIO SAYS

"As my Physiotherapy clinic grew and became very specialised I felt my old website really detracted from the unique work we did. We were one of the few Physio clinics in the UK to deliver training courses, teach abroad and have a specialist men's and women's health Physio service. Yet our website didn't reflect any of that. After much procrastination I approached Paul and he shut down the old website and put up a new bright fun holding page. From that moment on I knew I'd found the right person to build our new website. It's amazing and I love it. It has brought our clinic to life, google loves it, patients love it and you can book online for a Physio appointment. Our blogs are integrated as is all our social media. Paul has created a strong brand for us and has generated a lot of work for the clinic. He is soon starting our 3rd website for our new Men's health physio clinic in London and I know he will bring that to life also. He is a genius, a cool guy to be around and I feel lucky to have found him. He also took the fear out of doing a new website. You won't find better."
Gerard Greene, Harborne Physio

ABOUT HARBORNE PHYSIO

The Harborne Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic offers a combination of expert, innovative physiotherapists, unmatched experience, and a reputation for finding for successful resolutions for our clients, making the Harborne Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic the very best you will find.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE SITE

I always love working with people who are passionate about their work. Gerard and the physio's at Harborne Physio epitomise that with their zealous, almost a need to get people well, to get people back to performing at an optimum physical level. Almost uniquely, they do a lot of specialist mens and womens pelvic health physio too, which is definitely changing lives. And that's a big reward for me, working with people who want to change lives for the better. What could be better?

WHAT THINK PSYCHOLOGY SAY

"I cannot recommend Paul and Web Design & Build highly enough. Paul helped me with a complete website, which he built from the ground up, involving me at every step of the way. The result is Great and I regularly get comments from people who are impressed with the site. The other things I must recommend is Paul's ongoing care and attention in terms of updating the site or answering any questions in terms of changes I might want to make. Paul is a really knowledgable guy who prices his services reasonably and to top it all he us just a really nice bloke."
Richard Bennett, Think Psychology

ABOUT THINK PSYCHOLOGY

Led by Richard Bennett, Harborne, Birmingham based Think Psychology provides psychological therapy services, primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) on an individual basis. They also provide training in psychological interventions for healthcare professionals and students, clinical supervision for Psychologists and CBT therapists, and expert witness services for solicitors in respect of both civil and criminal cases.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE SITE

I loved working on this site, although ego dictates that it can be difficult to not be the smartest person in the room. Think's principal, Dr Richard Bennett, dedicated two decades of his life to psychological health in the NHS prior to establishing Think. During the process of working on the site with him, I came to understand that communities are built around people like Richard and not me and my poor mental hygiene. I can't help but be awed by his knowledge and dedication. Also, we wanted to make an important statement with a psychological health site that didn't in any way look like a boiler plate health field product. I love it. Art & Technology meets CBT.
